# 13 Visit the Royal Academy Summer Exhibition

Every year the Royal Academy holds one of the best art exhibitions in the country where members of the public can have works of art hung alongside the likes of Tracy Emin and Grayson Perry. Thousands of entries are narrowed down to just a few hundred to be displayed in the fantastic surroundings of the Royal Academy.

The result is a wonderful mix of all sorts of art from abstracts to portraits to sculpture and design and everything in between.

We visited on Tuesday the 9th of June, just a couple of days after the opening and spent a very enjoyable couple of hours wandering around and taking it all in.

I have been once before but I was particularly taken with this year's display as there was a lot of focus on colour. To start with, this amazing staircase designed by James Lambie and painstakingly installed line by line made for a fantastic introduction.

After passing through the entrance we were then greeted by rooms full of colour and artwork of all shapes and sizes from traditional portraits to huge sculptures to light installations.

I didn't take many pictures of the actual artwork, but this one caught my eye in the design room and might be familiar to some! Answers on a postcard.
